The first of the bees is the Scrips National Spelling Bee. The 5-8 graders took a written test and then an oral test. Next, the teachers took the best 11 scores from the grades. The 11 competed in another Spelling Bee until it got down to 6 students. This Bee is still not over. The winner Gracie Wild will compete in Thorp at the Regional Bee. The top spellers there will advance to the state competition. The second bee is the National Geographic Geography Bee. The students took a written bee all together in the church basement and an oral test in their classrooms. The 10 that got the best scores competed in the church basement. After long sudden-death rounds between the two finalists there was a champion determined. The school champion is Zach Hunt. Zach took an online test to see if he is eligible for the state competition. | |

The Tilden Lions Christmas party was held on December 15 at 7:00 PM. Some of St.Peter's students volunteered to sing for the Lions Club. The Lions Club members really enjoyed the show. Mrs. Wild took some of the songs from the play and the students sang them. There were snacks that the Lions Club members enjoyed also. The school students were very enthused to do this. This was because the Lions Club gives so much to our school.
The play was held on December 10 2017. The play went well this year, especially with such little time to prepare! Before the play, there were instrumental solos and each class sang a song. Everyone knew what they where doing and did it very well. This years title was "Once Upon A Starry Night." It was about Comet Powell who was a star that led the shepherds and wise men to Jesus. He is telling the story to some "twinkled out" stars. He inspires them to shine their very best. In the end Santa Clause came and gave candy canes to all the kids. In December, the school participated in the Spirit of Christmas toy drive. Families in the school brought in money for the family that we received. The eighth graders used the money and went shopping for a three child family. We shopped for two boys and one girl. We raised enough money for each child to receive $100 in gifts. Mrs. Bowe and Mrs. Christopher took us to Shopko and helped us shop for each child. We were able to get them a variety of gifts including toys, clothes, shoes, and books. thanks to your generosity these three children were able to have a wonderful Christmas. Last month we began practicing for our Christmas play. We started out only a little of practice a day but now we are practicing all afternoon. We were not that good to start, but now we have improved a lot. The seventh and eighth graders sing one song with the fifth and sixth graders and one with the whole school. The third and forth graders sing one song and play another song on their recorders, and the first and second graders sing two songs. Now we have a week to practice and we need a lot of work. We have the dress rehearsal on Friday and the real one is on Sunday. All are invited to the dress rehearsal on Friday at 12:45 PM and to the performance on Sunday at 12:45 PM. This November, the Bloomer VFW came to our school to teach the fifth through eighth graders how to raise, fold, and just generally handle the flag. We started in the church basement. They taught us that each fold when folding a flag has a meaning. They told us their many stories from the Vietnam War. One of these was quite interesting. We learned tat when the Americans got new soldiers in their camps in Vietnam, the enemies would shell the camps just to scare the living daylights out of the newbies. That wouldn't be too fun! After this the VFW took us out to the flagpole to show us how to raise the flag properly. We learned a lot. At the beginning of October, Mrs. Stoffel carefully chose each person's saint with the exception of the eighth grade because they get to chose their own saints. Each of the kids, depending on grade level, had to memorize some facts about their saint. Each of the students works very hard on this activity. Along with memorizing facts, they also had to dress up as their saint. All of the students worked very hard and made this activity very enjoyable for both parents and students alike! Great job kids!
This year for All Saints Day, the seventh and eighth graders sang at Mass which is a Holy Day of Obligation. Then, after Mass, all of our aspiring saints waited in suspense to see who would be chosen to tell about their saint in front of church. Mrs. Christopher chose one student from each grade. All of the students in school got together for our monthly Magic Schoolhouse activity. The seventh and eighth graders led skits with the younger students. These skits were about the birth of Jesus Christ. Each group read the Bible verses of the nativity scene before they performed. Each scene had a different leader and group. These scenes included: Gabriel coming to Mary and Joseph, the wise men following the star, the angels visiting the shepherds, and the Holy Family fleeing to Egypt. Everyone had fun creating different props for their characters. The students also enjoyed watching the different groups perform. |
