Ash Wednesday Activities

On the morning of Ash Wednesday, the entire school met for our monthly Bible Quest activity.  In groups, students searched the Bible looking for examples of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.  It was a challenging activity that got everyone thinking about how to help others in this season of Lent.
In the afternoon, the fifth through eighth grades spent a good portion of the afternoon making fleece tie blankets as a service project.  These blankets will be donated to area emergency service responders to be given to those who have experienced traumatic events.  We thank Carrie Geissler and Julia Jurczak for their help and guidance with this project.  Thanks also to the Christian Mothers Society for funding this project.

Catholic Schools Week: Teacher Appreciation Day

2/15/2016

Although we had a snow day on the original Teacher Appreciation Day, students and parents still pulled off a wonderful celebration for the teachers.  Eighth grade students treated the teachers, Father Ed, and Father Charlie to a delicious Mexican lunch on Teacher Appreciation day.  The guests were escorted to the church basement by designated 8th grade students who also presented the teachers with sombreros to wear.  Teachers enjoyed non-alcoholic margaritas, nachos, salsa, and guacamole, tacos, and delicious desserts.  For entertainment, 2 students juggled maracas, 5 students sang a song, and there was a pinata for the teachers to break open.  The teachers got a tasty treat of chocolates once the pinata was broke open.  It was a wonderful meal made possible by the 8th grade students and their families.

The Bees

Recently the 5th through 8th grade students tested their knowledge in geography and spelling in two different bees. The Geography Bee is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, and the Spelling Bee is sponsored by Scripps National Spelling Bee. There were three parts to each bee: a written round, oral round, and a school round. The winner of the Geography Bee, Rachel S., went on to take an online test to qualify for the national competition. Six people are going on to the Local Spelling Bee on February 9: Gracie, Elizabeth D., Rachel S., Lexi, Luke, and Peter.

Day One Catholic Schools Week: Pajama Day for Pals

2/1/2016

Monday, February 1, we were able to wear our PJ's to school! Each student donated two dollars to wear their pajamas. Why, you ask?m Our school wanted to donate this money to a local organization called Chippewa Pals. Budget cuts recently affected this organization. Our school looked into what they do for our community. Chippewa Pals takes place on one to two nights a month. They welcome people in our community with disabilities to have fun and be social! Meals and snacks are also provided for the people who come. Over 100 people attend this amazing event. Sometimes a local singer comes in for entertainment, and games with prizes are also sometimes included in this night of fun. Our goal is to help support others in our community!
